Transient synovitis usually affects children between the ages of three and ten, and boys are affected two to four times more often than girls. This condition causes inflammation of many joints: knees, ankles, wrists, elbows, and hips. The reason for this is unknown. The inflammation is accompanied by fever and rash. It is important to perform many tests to differentiate transient synovitis from a virus or bacteria.
