Dislocation of the elbow joint
Elbow joint dislocation occurs when the elbow is bent backward beyond its normal range of motion, damaging the ligaments, bones, and structures of the elbow. Hyperextension of the elbow can cause dislocation or fractures.
Many hyperextension injuries occur during intense physical or athletic activities. Falling and stopping with the arm extended can also cause the elbow to bend in the wrong direction, stretching and tearing ligaments, or causing the elbow bones to collide.
Elbow dislocation results in joint deformity, swelling and bruising.
