Foot drop is a neurological condition that causes the inability to lift the front of the foot. People with it drag their toes on the ground, which is why they raise their knee high or swing their leg in an arc.
Foot drop is the result of weakness or paralysis of the extensor muscles. There are three reasons for this:
peroneal nerve injury
spinal and brain disorders
muscle problems
The peroneal nerve runs down the lateral side of the popliteal fossa to the head of the fibula and helps lift the foot. Because of its location, it is very easy to damage following a sports injury or hip or knee replacement surgery.
Foot drop can occur at any age and can affect one foot or both feet at the same time. Treatment depends on the cause: physical therapy is used to strengthen the muscles, and surgery may be recommended to try to repair a damaged nerve. Early treatment can improve the chances of recovery. Regardless of the type of injury, lightweight orthotics are the most common treatment.
They have a special insert that lifts the foot and are very comfortable and invisible under clothing.
The AFO orthosis improves muscle function by supporting active gait in people with muscle weakness, nerve degeneration or other disorders.
If you want to use an invisible orthosis that supports your daily activity, PowerFIT fabric is for you!
PowerFit is a thin three-layer lamination, consisting of two outer layers of elastane and an inner core. The purpose of the core is to improve compression and absorb shock in the joints and muscles during physical activity. The outer layers of elastane are highly resistant to damage and dirt. The straps, made of this fabric, perfectly support the body. Thanks to their high quality, they can be used even in extreme conditions. PowerFit is easy to care for and can be hand washed, which allows our orthoses to be used for all daily activities.
The AFO orthosis is equipped with a semi-rigid sole that supports the foot. The orthosis is lightweight and elastic, thanks to innovative fabrics and technologies. It is durable and dynamic. By using it systematically, you can achieve a correct gait pattern and avoid abnormal compensated gait.
It improves walking dynamics and corrects foot inversion with active straps. When you adopt a correct gait, the iliopsoas and gluteal muscles work actively. The orthosis improves the calf muscle pump, which increases blood flow.
The high quality of our fabric and the physiological construction of the orthosis ensure great comfort of use and great effectiveness.
Our orthosis is a modular device, so it adapts precisely to each body size. You can order the soft part of the orthosis and the size of the sole separately.
